How to Collect Money From Friends Before Buying Group Tickets

Festival tier prices jump next Friday, eight people said "I'm in!", and the tickets cost €65 each. That's €520 on your card if you buy first and collect later — and everyone knows how "later" goes. Here's how to flip the order.

Why "buy first, collect later" keeps going wrong

Money-pool tools solve part of this, but they don't know about tickets: no seats, no per-person counts, no link between the money collected and the tickets you later distribute. That link is exactly what TicketFae adds.

Bill first, buy second — step by step

  1. Create the event in TicketFae with the ticket price per seat.
  2. Poll the group. A seat poll records who wants how many tickets — commitments, not chat-thread enthusiasm.
  3. Open the Split tab and choose "not yet bought". Pick the event; it brings its friend list and seat counts with it.
  4. Confirm the allocation and tap Bill. TicketFae creates an expense record per person — no PDF, no physical ticket needed. This is the whole point: the billing works before any ticket exists.
  5. Send payment requests. Each friend gets a request as text, or scans your PayPal / SEPA QR code with the amount pre-filled. Watch the money land in the Spending tab.
  6. Buy when everyone's paid — at whatever price tier you reach, with the group's money instead of yours.

No double billing: when you later split the actual ticket PDF for this event, TicketFae knows it's already billed — an orange banner points you to the existing records instead of charging anyone twice.

When prices rise between batches

Bought five early-bird tickets, then two stragglers joined at the higher price? TicketFae handles additional batches: the second batch keeps its real (higher) price and is billed to the people in it — costs are never silently averaged across the group.

Frequently asked

Does pre-billing need the tickets to exist?
No — that's the feature. "Not yet bought" mode creates only expense records and payment requests. Tickets come whenever you buy them.
What if someone pays and then can't come?
Their payment is on record. Reassign their seat to someone else and settle the difference — the transaction history keeps everything traceable.
Can friends pay without an app or account?
Yes — payment requests arrive as normal messages, and QR codes work with any banking or PayPal app.
